All I want for Christmas…
Check out my attempt at poetry on @notejuste's fine poetry blog: http://bit.ly/hWN7VR - be kind, comment, offer your own?
Hey Andrew… great poems. I thought by way of a comment I’d offer up my own on the topic of Christmas. Be gentle… this is my first attempt at poetry!
Glazed over eyes and half baked batters
of the inedible kind, not that it matters
Racks of empties stacked by the door
the shrapnel sea remains of the cutlery drawer
which spills over edges, stacked neater than cards
and flows into the living room where movement is hard
as belts are slackened to the widest point
‘Who’s turn to wash up? Right I’m flipping a coin’
Thoughts of the pub and ‘who’s round?’ slouchers
and ‘mind if I pay you in B&Q vouchers?’
Purple Haze fills the room, not from Hendrix mind,
its a sponsored day of the Benson & Hedges kind
Wrapped up gifts in illegal street trader paper
torn at the corners to peak in under pater
gets up off his ass and dishes them out
like he’s done every year, ‘What’s that all about?’
Eyebrows raised from edible knickers
sent dressed with love from the local vicar
seriously he’s the dirtiest bastard alive,
I know because he comes to me with his knackered hard drives.
Right I’m done, dusted, out, my brain spillage complete
Sorry to distract you from your Quality Street
Sit back, break wind, raise a beer for us few
and remember guns don’t kill people, crap wrappers do.
